We are having a fantastic Monday! Three lovely things have happened! Firstly, when we arrived at our classroom this morning we were pleased to observe that several of our seeds have started to grow! We now have seven young plants which include, pea plants, carrot seedlings and tomato seedlings. After that, we had even more excitement when Caitríona dropped by with a letter for the class in response to our persuasive letters. Not only was she very impressed with our letters, but she also said yes to our request! We will be visiting the playground with our class! Caitríona has asked us to write a report of our trip afterwards. We are looking forward to our trip. Finally, just before our second break, our whole class got to visit the ice cream van together and get a treat! We were so thankful and enjoyed eating on the grass with our friends before yard. What a lovely Monday!

We have been busy working on writing an important letter to Caitríona. We are trying to use our persuasive skills to encourage Caitríona to let 3rd Class visit our local playground before the end of the school year. We just finished our letters today and are going to deliver them to her now. Hopefully our letters will be persuasive enough! Have a look at our writing journey below. First, each pod worked together to come up with some persuasive reasons as to why we should go to the playground. Then, we wrote our letters one paragraph at a time. We wrote them on whiteboards first and our buddies helped us edit our work before we wrote them into our copies. After writing our letter into our copies, we read through them and made some improvements with our green "polishing" pen. Then we published our letters using our neatest handwriting and decorated them. Finally, we put our letters into a beautifully decorated envelope, ready to be delivered! We finished publishing our advertisements for our inventions! We are very proud of our writing! We have displayed them in our writing folders on our classroom writing display.
This week we had an invention challenge! Each pod designed a new toy and wrote persuasive advertisements to try and sell it. We used empty cereal boxes to design the prototype box for our new products and acted out advertisements during drama. We had great ideas and had great fun! We had a great week in school last week and did lots of fabulous learning. In English, we have been learning about persuasive writing. We wrote some very convincing advertisements to sell basketballs. We hope you enjoy reading them! See if you can spot our exaggerated language, product benefits and rhetorical questions. We got some new P.E. equipment in our classroom and have been having fun with it. We got some new footballs so we have been busy practising football skills in our pods during our indoor and outdoor P.E. lessons.
We realised today that our winter poem clips weren't working in our earlier post so here they are again. We used our new knowledge to write senses poems about winter that are full of lovely images and feelings that really help the readers to enjoy them. Some of us recorded our poems to share here. We hope you enjoy listening to them!
We have just finished our rock art project. The student council have organised that the whole school participate in an Our School Rocks project. Each child in the school will bring a rock to school and decorate it. We will then place the rocks in our school garden. We really enjoyed painting our rocks this week and we have them ready in our classroom to put in the school garden soon. Our Finished RocksRock Painting in ActionBuddy ReadingWe have been really enjoying our Big Cat readers. Martha gives each group a new book on a Monday. On Thursday, before we give them back to Martha, we each get a chance to read some of our book to a buddy. It is a great chance for us to practise our reading and to hear our classmates read as well. We all really enjoyed our mid-term break and we were delighted to be back in school again this week. We had a busy week. We moved into new pods this week. Now we can spend a few weeks working with some different classmates. It is fun to learn with different classmates. This week we have been using positive affirmations to start and end our days. It is important to say kind and positive things to ourselves every day. We wrote down some of our favourites in our copies and each of us created a self portrait and surrounded it with positive affirmations to remind ourselves how great we are! This week we did lots of work with our dictionaries. We are getting really quick at finding words in a dictionary and we practised writing down their definitions. We checked the definitions of our spellings words and this helped us with our home learning. In History, we have been learning about communications. First we made a mind map of all of the different ways that we could think of that humans use to communicate today. There are lots! Then we looked at the different ways humans have developed to communicate with each other throughout history. We have started a little communications timeline and next week we are going to focus on different parts of the timeline. Today, we had our first Golden Time in our new pods! It was great fun and we really enjoyed playing and talking to our teammates. What a great end to a great week! |
